Promoting EU fundamental values through education

On 19 January, the European Parliament adopted a report on the role of intercultural dialogue, cultural diversity and education in promoting EU fundamental values. This report by Julie Ward (S&D, United Kingdom) stresses that ‘increasing public investment in inclusive, quality and accessible formal, non-formal and informal education is the first step to providing equal access and opportunities for all’. The report reminds all stakeholders that education not only provides knowledge, skills and competences but also should aim to ensure that learners become active, responsible and open-minded members of society.
