European Trade Union Committee for Education

From 26 to 27 November 2014, more than 200 teacher union representatives from all over Europe convene in Vienna for ETUCE's first mid-term conference under the new structure. The Future of the Teaching Profession, which is the Leitmotif of the event and of the main conference resolution, promises interesting discussions. The debate is prompted and inspired by several honoured guest speakers, among them, Mr. Xavier Prats-Monné, Director General, DG EAC, Prof. Emeritus John MacBeath from Cambridge University, Dr. Riina Vuorikari, from the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission and Prof. Susan Lee Robertson from Bristol University.

The conference focuses on three major strands:  Funding and Public & Private Partnerships in Education, Innovation in Education and The European Social Model under Strain - Social Inequalities and the Teaching Profession. Next to the main conference resolution that is proposed by the ETUCE Committee, a resolution on the Impact of Neoliberal Policies on Education has been proposed by OLME and TUS, as well as two policy papers developed in the Standing Committee for Higher Education (HERSC) on Quality Assurance in Higher Education and on Early Stage Researchers.

Ahead of the conference, several side meetings are taking place on 25 November 2014, such as the first meeting of the Central and Eastern European Network, an Exhibition on Quality in Education as well as three workshops on the Impact of the Economic Crisis on Education, Higher Education and Research and on Equal Opportunities in Education. A special momentum is also created for early childhood education with the EI/ETUCE High Quality Early Childhood Education Conference on 24 - 25 November 2014.
