Joint Statement on the International Day against Female Genital Mutilation
Published:The European Commission (EC) has published a Joint Statement on the "International Day against Female Genital Mutilation" and is committed to end this practice. In the EU still 500,000 victims suffer under Genital Mutilation. The EC declares that this practice is a violation of human and children rights, and states that no tradition or culture can justify violence against women. In order to support the fight against Genital Mutilation the EC will provide another 4.5 million euro for the work at the "grassroots" level.
Furthermore, a web-based platform to provide information's for professionals working in this field will be established.
