Kosovo: 10000 union members sign petition against €320 salary delay
Published:A 25% salary increase for public sector workers, proposed by the government of Kosovo* last year, will be delayed for 4 months. This was the decision of the Constitutional Court of Kosovo on 12 December 2019, following a request from the Ombudsman of Kosovo.
This delay will cost education employees around €80 a month, on average €320 each. ETUCE member organisation SBASHK has sent a request to the government and Ombusdman, asking for the request to the Constitutional Court to be withdrawn so that the payrise can be implemented as proposed last year. Their letter was signed by 10000 union members.
ETUCE has written to the Government of Kosovo, asking them to initiate talks involving the Prime Minister and the leaders of the political parties to find solutions for the salary increase as it was initially set out by the last year’s law. We stand with SBASHK and all education employees in Kosovo and call for effective social dialogue and decent salaries in the education sector.
